St Andrew’s Primary School has become an Academy
St Andrew’s Church of England Primary School in Cobham is delighted to announce that the school became an academy by joining Esher Learning Trust (ELT) on 1 April 2017.
This is an exciting step for the school, providing the school’s leaders with greater freedom in significant areas such as the curriculum and financial control. The move also strengthens the already flourishing partnership with Esher High School. St Andrew’s School is one of the ‘feeder’ schools for Esher High, which became an academy in 2014.
The plans for ELT are to expand with other primary and secondary schools joining in the future. However, for the time being, the two schools will work very closely together, giving pupils and staff increased opportunities to share great practice and experiences.
St Andrew’s has established an excellent reputation in the community, recognised for its innovative approach to the curriculum and for its outcomes for all its pupils. Activity Hour has become one of its unique selling points (an outstanding programme of sporting, cultural and environmental activities for all its children, providing challenging experiences that utilise the school’s 10 acres to great effect) and the work of its pastoral care team is equally worthy of celebration.
Alistair Mann, Chair of St Andrew’s Governors said, “This is great news for St Andrew’s. In becoming an academy, St Andrew’s leadership will have greater control of every aspect of school life and can continue to build on the academic and pastoral improvements already achieved in the last few years.
“The school’s ambition is that every pupil will experience life in all its fullness and we believe this can be achieved by becoming an academy. It will allow us to extend and develop innovative initiatives, like the daily “Activity Hour”, in partnership with Esher High School. The school opted for the Esher Learning Trust because its aims and values mirror our own and we are confident that this bold move that will secure the school’s aims for its children, both now and in the future.”
